BREAKING NEWS: Earthquake Hits East Coast!

LOL! You Feel That?

Philadelphia, PA
@12:53 EST today (8/23/2011) an earthquake measuring 5.8 (correction 5.9, now) shook the east coast of the U.S. Witnesses said the tremors lasted for ~10-15 seconds causing wine glasses to fall and car air freshener trees to shake.

Whitney Biennial 2012 again!
There may be more to come. According to Marcia McNutt, director of the U.S. Geological Survey: “What the concern is, of course, is that this is a foreshock. If it’s a foreshock, then the worse is yet to come.” UHHH.

She goes on to say: “When something like this happens, everyone has to remember, more than half of the states in the U.S. are considered earthquake country. When something like this happens, remember what to do in the case of a seismic event. Duck, get under something sturdy like a desk or a doorway, get away from falling glass. Make sure that you are not in the way of falling objects like pictures, bookshelves, books, anything that’s not firmly connected the wall.” -

You Guys Remember PIFA?

Rafaël Rozendaal

Rafaël Rozendaal's websites are incredible. We know of quite a few others that are using the internet as a medium in itself (even locally) - but this guy might be the best we've seen so far. It's especially interesting that the websites are bought and sold as art. They remain public when the domain name pointing to them is sold - as the physical work. Rozendaal was born in Amsterdam in 1980 and currently "lives and works in hotels"...must be nice. He is the great-grandson of former Brazilian president Humberto Castello Branco.

Rozendaal also created an iPhone/iPad app, Finger Battle:

We are not in the Whitney Biennial 2012

We are NOT in the Whitney Biennial 2012 and we weren't in the Whitney Biennial 2010 either. Maybe Whitney Biennial 2014 but chances are slim. We do know that the Whitney Biennial 2012 will open in March 2012 and run until May or June of that year. The world-reknowned exhibition will be co-curated by Elisabeth Sussman and Jay Sanders. We also know that the Whitney Museum of American Art is located at 945 Madison Avenue at 75th Street, New York, NY and that general admission to the museum (special exhibits included) is $18.00. The Whitney looks like this:

Breaking Piss Christ News!

The controversial photograph Immersion (Piss Christ) by American artist Andres Serrano was vandalized Sunday while on display at the Collection Lambert in Avignon, France. According to authorities, three vandals entered the museum early Sunday carrying a chisel, spray paint, and a hammer. While security confiscated the paint and chisel from two of the assailants, the third, already into the exhibit, struck the photograph with a hammer. Another Serrano work, The Church (Sister Jeanne-Myriam), was also damaged during a scuffle between the vandals and a guard immediately following the attack.

Color Photos of 1906 San Francisco Earthquake Discovered

Discovered in 2009 by a National Museum of American History volunteer, these color photos taken by photography pioneer Frederick Eugene Ives are the only known color photographs of the earthquake's devastation. The following photos are also examples of a color photo technique that Ives invented, in which three separate slides of the primary colors were taken and combined. This process did not prove to be commercially viable due to long exposure time. Ives is best know for his contributions to halftone printing. He was also a founding member of the Photographic Society of Philadelphia.

Henny Youngman

This guy is funny- his show at Marginal Utility is a completely different type of humor. Still - really funny, thought-provoking, and well-executed. He's a lot older than we thought, though.

Metropolis w/ special guest, Wanamaker Organ

What a mashup!
On March 19th, 2011 at 8:30pm the historic Wanamaker organ, with Peter Richard Conte at it's helm, will play accompaniment to the seminal Fritz Lang masterpiece, Metropolis.

The Wanamaker organ is the largest operational pipe organ in the world and is located in Macy's Department Store in Center City Philadelphia. Tickets are $50.00 and can be purchased at either The Philadelphia Film Society or Friends of the Wanamaker Organ - both sponsors.

If you are tired of Angry Birds, this game is an addictive change. Not currently available for Android...
